End User License Agreement

Version 1.2 · Last updated: October 16, 2026

This agreement is between you and the author of DisplayPilot (referred to below as “we” or “us”) and covers the DisplayPilot software (the “Software”). By purchasing or using the Software, you confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted this agreement. If you do not accept it, please do not use the Software.

Checkout is live. Payment is in cryptocurrency through our own checkout and licensing service — there is no third-party merchant of record. When a payment confirms, the order page shows your activation code immediately; you can re-open it later with the permanent link or the 6-character query code shown on that page. If your 14-day trial is still running, nothing changes until it ends.

1. Product and parties

2. License scope

  1. The Software is licensed per user. It is not priced per device, and there is no shared multi-user license.
  2. You may install and use the Software on Macs that you own or control. A DP- activation code is verified entirely offline and carries no server-enforced device limit — a deliberate trade-off; please keep to one license per user and do not share the code.
  3. Commercial use: permitted. You may use the Software for personal matters and in your job or your company's operations. However, one license covers one user; if several people each need to use it, please buy one per person. For corporate volume licensing, contact us on GitHub Issues.
  4. Outside the scope expressly permitted above, you may not resell, rent, lend, give away, or publicly share the license key; you may not provide the Software or its license to third parties as a service; and you may not remove or conceal the software's copyright notices, license marks, or About information.
  5. Backups: you may make a reasonable number of copies for your own use.

3. Restrictions on use

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you may not (and may not permit others to):

  1. reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, or attempt to derive its source code or internal algorithms — except where expressly permitted by law or agreed by us in writing;
  2. bypass, disable, or evade any license check, trial period, activation slot, or security mechanism;
  3. use the Software for unlawful activity, or to infringe the lawful rights of others.

4. Disclaimer and risk disclosure

Please read this section. The Software is not “absolutely safe”: it genuinely changes the state of your display and performs file cleanup operations.

1. Provided as is

The Software is provided “as is” and “as available”. We make no warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.

2. What the Software does

With the authorization of your operating system, the Software can:

3. Adjusting display parameters is your responsibility

Dimming, color changes, and switching resolution, refresh rate, or input source all change the current state of your screen. Extreme settings, or settings that are outdated or incompatible with your display's firmware, may cause image corruption, a black screen, a lost input signal, or an abnormal display arrangement (monitor position or main display). Please make sure you understand the consequences before using these features; you bear the resulting consequences yourself. We recommend against trying aggressive settings when you have only one display path, no way to operate the machine remotely, or work in progress that cannot be interrupted.

4. What we do not guarantee

5. Recovery capability

We provide recovery paths that do not depend on the Software running, and document them (see the support page and the recovery manual). But recovery capability is not a warranty, and it may still be constrained by your particular hardware and system state. Before using any feature that could cost you your picture or your input, read the recovery manual first and make sure you know how to recover.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the Software (including but not limited to lost profits, data, goodwill, or business interruption). Our total liability to you for the Software is limited to the amount you actually paid to license it. This clause does not exclude or limit liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited (for example, liability for our intentional misconduct or gross negligence, and consumer rights that cannot be waived).

5. Refund policy

Refunds are issued by us. Cryptocurrency payments cannot be reversed on-chain, so a refund is a manual transfer in the same currency to the address you paid from (or another address you specify).

  1. Within 14 days of purchase, if the Software cannot work properly on your device and we cannot resolve it after reasonable effort, contact us via GitHub Issues and we will refund the amount you paid. Because the transaction is on-chain and irreversible we may ask you to confirm the receiving address and the transaction hash.
  2. The Software offers a 14-day free trial with full functionality. Please use the trial thoroughly before buying, to confirm it works with your display, your connection method, and your workflow.
  3. To request a refund, include the order number shown on the order page and, if you have it, the transaction hash. The app’s Diagnostics tab can generate a plain-text report (no username, no serial number) that contains the rest of what we need.
  4. For digital goods that are activated and working normally, the mandatory consumer protection law of your jurisdiction may give you additional rights of withdrawal; nothing in this agreement waives those rights.
  5. We will not try to retain users by refusing refunds, but we do reserve the right to handle clear fraud, chargebacks, and abuse of the refund policy.

6. Update policy

  1. A one-time purchase includes one year of feature updates and bug fixes from the date of purchase.
  2. After that year you can keep using the version you already have, with no need to uninstall or repurchase. Versions we have already released remain downloadable and usable.
  3. After the first year, if you want to keep receiving later versions you may renew (at the price shown on the sales page at that time). Renewal is optional; not renewing does not affect your continued use of the version you hold.
  4. Security fixes ship with updates. For legal or security reasons we may release a fix for a supported version separately; we will make a reasonable effort, but we do not promise indefinite fixes for any historical version.
  5. License checks and offline use. Codes beginning with DP- are verified entirely offline with a public key built into the app: no network request is sent and the license does not lapse with time. Short codes (DP-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) are redeemed once against our licensing service and then work offline as well. Recovery operations (restoring your display, handing calibration back to the system, display sleep, and quitting) are available under any license state and never depend on a network connection.

7. Privacy

  1. The Software has no telemetry, no analytics, and does not upload usage data.
  2. Only three things reach the network: checking for updates (off by default), verifying a license, and opening a web page when you click it yourself. A DP- code is verified offline and sends no request at all; a short code sends one request when you redeem it. See the Privacy Policy for details.
  3. The diagnostic information generated by the app’s Diagnostics tab is never sent automatically. You review it yourself and then decide whether to copy it to GitHub Issues. What it generates has display serial numbers, user names, file paths, and license keys removed.

8. Termination

  1. This agreement terminates if you breach it. On termination you must stop using the Software and delete all copies in your possession or control.
  2. We may terminate or suspend your license in the following cases: reselling, renting, or publicly sharing the license key; bypassing or evading activation and license checks; reverse engineering the Software (except where the law permits); fraudulent purchase, refund, or chargeback; and where the law requires us to terminate.
  3. You may stop using and delete the Software at any time, terminating this agreement; fees already paid are handled under the refund policy in section 5.
  4. After termination, sections 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9, and any clause that by its nature should survive, remain in force.

9. Governing law and disputes

  1. This agreement is governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China (excluding conflict-of-law rules).
  2. The rights you have under the mandatory consumer protection law of your habitual residence are unaffected by this agreement; if any clause of this agreement conflicts with such mandatory provisions, those provisions prevail.
  3. Disputes should first be resolved through friendly negotiation; if negotiation fails, either party may bring an action before a court with jurisdiction.

10. Miscellaneous

This agreement is concluded in English. Translations are provided for your convenience; where a translated version differs from the English text — including where it is shorter — the English text governs.

  1. This agreement together with the Privacy Policy constitutes the entire understanding between you and us regarding the Software and supersedes any prior oral or written statement.
  2. If any clause of this agreement is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining clauses remain in effect.
  3. We may update this agreement with new versions; material changes will be described in the changelog and on the sales page. Continuing to use a new version means you accept the updated agreement; if you do not, you may stop using it and keep the older version you already have.
  4. For questions about this agreement, please ask on GitHub Issues.
